Viral video clips appeared to show Jones flashing his middle finger toward opposing supporters, though he insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Cowboys fans present at the game as his team secured a decisive win.
“That was unfortunate. It was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally done. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”
League Context for Proprietor Fines
This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Previous cases include:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in early 2024.
