The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation around The Game Awards has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
